Support BIPOC doulas.

Support BIPOC MIDWIVES

Support BIPOC families.

Black (re)birth matters.

Birth Wild Awake is a continuous effort to support the health, wellness, vitality and education of Black Indigenous People of Color + Doulas in the U.S. with an emphasis on centering Black families and Black Doulas. Focusing on holistic health, access, equity and reproductive care for birthing people of color to address the racial disparities in childbirth in the United States as a call for attention, support, advocacy and quality care. BWA collects donations to provide affordable education and care care to close the gap and create level ground for all to thrive while also providing access for all birthing bodies to Birth Wild Awake. This money is strictly used to provide educational scholarships to BIPOC Doulas seeking mentorship and skillsets to help them support BIPOC families. We also provide access to funds to families who apply for support to hire a BIPOC Doula in their area. Currently these trainings, mentorships and community building self care skillsets are provided through the Wild Awake Doula Community and facilitated by Scout Wild Awake. We are here to support and amplify BIPOC voices through their journeys of fertility, conception, pregnancy and postpartum and parenting.

This support fund utilizes 5 key tools toward our mission:

Justice

There are two main aspects of justice that Birth Wild Awake focuses on: internal justice and reproductive justice. Reproductive justice referring to the physical, mental, spiritual, political, economic, and social well-being of human beings that possess wombs, the ability, access and resources to make healthy decisions about their bodies, sexuality, and reproduction. Internal justice is the primal understanding and embodiment of self care and the knowledge of knowing that it is inherently SELF LESS to tend to our own healing. As we heal ourselves, we learn to shine the light and guide others toward their own healing. Internal justice is the right to seek your own humanity, wellness and even joy FIRST so that you can turn outward and give more away from an eternal source, by any means necessary.

Lineage

Our true power in this work is guided by our ancestors. They have been supporting community energetically and promoting spiritual wellness for lifetimes ahead of us. We not only use the wisdom they instilled in us but link the traditions and practices of the past to the access, technology and voices of today. From labor comfort measures and somatic healing to postpartum mothering the new mother - we use this ancient knowledge that lives within us as our compass.

Method

The method of understanding and managing the education you are absorbing through experience in the same way we gauge how much new information a new family can digest during life transition. The Wild Awake Doula Methodis not only about access to new, evidence based information but also access to your own self care. It creates a connection and practice out of learning to hold space for others through holding space for yourself - this is the key to sustainable community care and global healing.

abundance

This is where we end the scarcity paradigm and open ourselves up the abundance that is our birthright. Ending the idea that there is a fixed amount of money, prosperity, love or success in the world and we must fight to claim our piece. But for the marginalized population there is an added layer to this mentality that is interwoven into our culture and society - it is necessary to recognize our worthiness and ability to receive abundance (something our society has not embedded in us). As Doulas this concept also amplifies the “collaboration over competition” foundation of community. Capitalism should not rule over wellness. Doulas deserve to be paid for their work, especially when working with marginalized communities that need them. BIPOC families deserve to HIRE the help and support that they need.

community

Creating community and cultivating support, care, compassion, accountability and growth is essential. It takes a village and this change is global. A sense of genuine community adds dimension to our personal perspectives. This change starts and ends with empowering and healing the BIPOC community while promoting wellness using redistribution of wealth to elevate, heal and reclaim the health and wellness that has previously been systematically restricted. We are here to break racial barriers, fight birth disparities and create change.
